Much of today was spent getting to the airport in Paris and flying into Rome. Our hotel in Rome is within walking distance on the Colosseum!
In the evening, we took the Metro to Spagna near the Spanish Steps. We continued down Via Condotti, where all the high-end shops (Gucci and such) are. Rome at night is lively.
We ate dinner at a restaurant where everything is made from scratch, including the pasta. Part of my meal was artichokes (which are in season now) cooked in olive oil. YUM!
During dinner, we celebrated the birthday of one of our group members. Tiramisu with a candle and a rousing chorus of “happy birthday” completed the occasion!
On our way back to the Metro, we stopped for gelato. Lemon and strawberry for me, which was also delicious!
