Highlights of Japan

Go Ahead’s Director of Marketing Lynne Sarao is an accomplished traveler, but until last year, she’d never been to Japan. Lynne moonlights as a photographer, so we were eager to see what sort of shots she captured in Japan. Her photos reveal a country in touch with its history and looking toward the future. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

We went on this tour several years ago and absolutely loved it!  Our guide Miki was among the very best and I hope she still does this tour.  What a beautiful and photogenic country and peoples.  We went at the beginning of cherry blossom season and although it was cool we all managed well.  I strongly recommend going to Hiroshima if possible.  It was very moving.  The food was great, and each evening meal was a unique Japanese event.  Don’t pass up on this.  It was a fascinating experience every day we were there.  We would do it again if there were’t so many other places on our list!

I traveled to Hofu, Japan, in 2006 for three weeks on a sister city exchange program. I lived with two host families who helped show me around. I visited the Akiyoshi cave, Hiroshima, three high schools, multiple tenmanngus (temples), participated in various festivals, judo, kendo, archery, met Japanese Girl Guides (as I was a girl scout), and did other assorted things. It was a wonderful experience and one that I will always remember as my first trip abroad. It was especially unique in that I did not travel with family – which for a (then) 16 year old could be quite daunting and exhilerating!
