Once upon a time, Moscow was a cold, foreign place where James Bond villains drank vodka, wore fur hats and hatched their next diabolical scheme. Or that’s the fairy tale most of us grew up with, anyway.
The modern-day reality is a little different. Gone are the days of the Cold War and Soviet scarcity. Today, Moscow is home to more billionaires than any other city on the planet, and Russia wants to show off its rejuvenated capital.
That’s why Russian leaders are moving forward with a plan to create a 720-foot-tall Ferris wheel in the center of Moscow. Just for reference, 720 feet is the height of the dam from which James Bond bungee jumped at the beginning of Goldeneye. Here’s a video that may jog your memory:
The new Ferris wheel, tentatively called the Moscow View, will be the tallest in the world, and the project is expected to cost at least $300 million.
