Our second traveler to live blog her trip, Janet D. has decided to celebrate the holidays in a whole new way this year: on tour in London, Paris & Rome. She’ll be documenting her 11-day trip (plus a pre-tour extension in London) as she explores the Christmas markets and beautiful decorations of some of Europe’s favorite cities. But before she departs, we asked her for a little background on who she is and why she chose this particular tour.
How many years have you been a Go Ahead traveler? How many tours have you been on?
Took my first Go Ahead tour in 2006. The upcoming tour will be my sixth.
How many countries have you visited?
Why do you like traveling with Go Ahead?
I like the balance between structure and discretionary time. Go Ahead handles the logistics, leaving me free to enjoy my vacation. I also have the flexibility to arrive before the start of the tour.
What is your favorite city? Why?
Do I have to pick just one? I never get tired of Rome, with art, history and great food. London for history and great theater.
Why did you want to travel over the holidays this year?
When I travel, of course I want to see art and historic sites. The best part, though, is to get a glimpse of what it’s like to live there. Celebrating Christmas and the New Year in Europe will put me into the thick of the culture.
Why did you choose London, Paris & Rome for your next trip?
Three wonderful destinations AND it’s over the holidays.
What are you most looking forward to about your tour?
Christmas decorations and holiday celebrations. I’ve only been in Italy during the summer, and I’m very curious about seasonal foods in winter.
What’s your favorite part about traveling?
Connecting with locals!
What are your favorite things to do when you’re not traveling?
Time with grandsons, volunteering, reading and planning future travel.
What’s one of your best travel tips?
Pack light and bring picnic supplies: corkscrew, bottle opener, knife, resealable bags, etc. It know that’s two, but they make life much easier!
