Brand Team members Jenna C. and Jessie R. embark on a 13-day adventure across the Greek Islands. Here they answer some questions about their travels and what they do at Go Ahead.
What do you do at Go Ahead?
JR: As a writer on Go Ahead’s Brand Team, it’s my job to inspire and inform our travelers through projects like our catalog, emails and this blog.
JC: I work on the Go Ahead Brand Team as a designer, which means that it’s my job to make our printed materials, emails and more function in the most beautiful and exciting way.
Where have you traveled to before? What has been your favorite trip?
JR: I’ve been to Thailand, Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands, Iceland, Italy, South Korea, Guatemala, the Czech Republic, Austria, France and all over the U.S. It’s hard to pick a favorite trip, but I studied in the Barcelona for two semesters in college and will never feel like I’ve spent enough time there.
JC: I’ve traveled throughout Italy, Belgium, and France. My favorite trip was in college, when I spent a month living and studying Italian in Milan, Italy. Getting to know the city with the help of locals offered a completely different perspective, and I fell in love with the city’s architecture and Northern Italian cuisine. This trip deepened my interest in regional cuisine, language, and learning more about my Italian heritage.
What is your favorite thing about visiting a new place?
JR: Seeing what it’s like to live there—I love hanging out where locals spend their time.
JC: I love to absorb everything I can about the local culture — the language, cuisine, customs and traditions.
Do you usually bring back souvenirs? What kinds?
JR: I usually stock up on small gifts for friends and family, especially if there is a holiday or birthday coming up. I also love buying interesting magazines in the local language.
JC: I find myself taking photos of local design and typographic styles while collecting printed ephemera, such as vintage postcards. I love to collect sketchbooks from new places I visit as well, like my favorite leather sketchbook I purchased on the Rialto bridge in Venice.
What are you most excited to do or see on your tour?
JR: I’m excited to learn more about Greek history. I always loved studying Greek mythology in school. And, of course, I can’t wait to dip my toes in the Aegean Sea.
JC: I am looking forward to sampling authentic Greek cuisine, and sketching some of the incredible sights I’ve been dreaming about for years — from the black sand beaches of Santorini to the ancient ruins of the Parthenon.
