Our copywriter, Laura, is going on tour to France and will be live blogging her whole trip! Get to know her with our Q&A below.
What is your role at Go Ahead?
I’m a writer on the Brand Team, which means that it’s my job to keep people updated on what’s going on here at Go Ahead and to inspire them to experience the world through travel. I work on everything from emails and posts for the blog to the catalog and tour itineraries.
Where have you traveled to before? What has been your favorite trip?
In addition to traveling around the U.S., I’ve been to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, England, Scotland, Ireland, France and Spain. I was first bitten by the travel bug on a trip to London when I was 12, and then again when I went back for a semester in college. I loved getting to know the city—exploring its streets, learning how to navigate the Tube and finding the best pubs for a pint or places to grab a bite to eat. This trip will always be one of my favorites because by the time I left, I felt like a local.
What is your favorite thing about visiting a new place?
As simple as this sounds, for me it’s just being somewhere different. There’s something thrilling about being in a place I’ve never been before—there’s so much to see and learn and I love just taking it all in.
Why did you choose to visit France?
I took French in high school and college, so it’ll be really interesting to explore the country I learned so much about. Even though I’ve been to France once before, I stayed right in Paris. I think the best way to get to know a place is to experience it from different perspectives, so I’ve always wanted to go back and see another side of France.
What are you most excited to do or see on your tour?
Is “everything!” an acceptable answer? I honestly don’t think I can choose just one thing, so I’ll go with my top three instead. Croissants are one of my favorite breakfast foods, so I can’t wait to try an authentic one. I’m also really excited to visit the Loire Valley and see its famous chateaux, which provided the inspiration for the animators of “Beauty and the Beast,” one of my favorite childhood movies. Lastly, there’s a cooking class that I’m really looking forward to, I’m always on the lookout for new recipes!
