We like to talk about how inspirational travel is, but it’s always a delight to see inspiration brought to life. For Go Ahead traveler Gail Shelton, her inspiration manifests itself in her sketchbook, her photographs and her watercolors from around the world. Gail recently returned from Go Ahead’s Athens & Ancient Greece along with the post-tour extension to The Greek Islands, and when she returned, she shared some of her work with us. We’ve selected some of our favorite photographs of Greece from her extensive collection, but you can find all of Gail’s outstanding artwork on her blog Art of the Day.

This image of a cupola could be anywhere in Greece: white walls offset by light blue, leading the eye upward to the cloudless sky above.

Time passes more slowly in Greece, where a horse-drawn carriage is a perfectly speedy mode of transportation.

An ancient mosaic inspired one of Gail's paintings. Note the exquisite detail on the women's curls.

The famous Porch of Maidens at the Athenian Acropolis.

On the island of Corfu, Gail discovered this gorgeous statue in a wooded glade.

As Gail discovered, the Greeks are some of the friendliest people you'll find.
