On Friday morning we landed in Sullivan Bay on the island of Santiago, also known as James Island. I immediately felt at home. Here was a relatively young island; still shaking off the ashes of its volcanic birth; still relatively barren.
Staggering peaks, glowing lava and smoldering craters—it’s no wonder that thrill seekers are drawn to volcanoes. Whether it’s zip-lining next to active peaks or simply taking in the specular view from afar, volcano tourism is a growing travel trend.
