This past Saturday, Go Ahead Tours was pleased to welcome guest speaker Frances Mayes, New York Times bestselling author of Under the Tuscan Sun, to our Taste of Tuscany in Boston event. Like Go Ahead Tours, Frances is also celebrating a 20th anniversary this year – for her, it’s 20 years of being a homeowner in beautiful Tuscany, Italy.
After reading several passages from her newest book, Every Day in Tuscany, Frances delighted the crowd with tales of her life in the beautiful village of Cortona. She spoke about how magical Italy is and how she still can’t quite find the end of it, as there is always something new and exciting to discover around every corner. Then she described the fresh and flavorful Tuscan cuisine, explained how a meal can sometimes last several hours and assured us that in Italy, ‘food is never associated with guilt.’ I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to pack my bags!
After the presentation, guests were invited to meet Frances as she graciously signed copies of her new book and posed for photos with adoring fans. Guests enjoyed a selection of traditional Italian antipasti and tasted an array of Italian wines as they made new friends and exchanged their own stories about traveling to Italy. Many attendees were so inspired that they reserved tours to Italy on the spot!
We’d like to thank everyone who joined us on Saturday. And of course we’d like to extend special thanks to Frances Mayes for sharing her stories and her love of Italy with us. To see more photos from this event, please visit our Facebook fan page at: www.facebook.com/EuropeanTours.
