“God himself couldn’t sink this ship,” they said.
Pop quiz: To which ship were “they” referring?
The Titanic, of course; when has anyone ever spoken so boldly about any other ship? But here’s the thing: no one ever actually said that about the RMS Titanic. And yet, the myth of the overly confident sailor (or dockhand or captain or whomever) remains.
One hundred years later, the Titanic still captures our imaginations. This April, the Irish port of Cobh—the Titanic’s last port of call before heading for the open ocean—will commemorate Titanic Centenary Week. It’s a week with twelve days (April 9-21), but somehow, that feels just about right for what was once the world’s largest cruise liner.
If you’re going to be in Cobh during Titanic Centenary Week, snap a photo of the festivities and we’ll feature it on our blog! Bonus points if you turn in a photo featuring Kate Winslet’s famous “I’m flying!” pose.
