In March we celebrated flavor and cuisine while traveling, something winner Rebecca C. experienced on her tour to Costa Rica. “I am sure that others have savored more luxurious dishes while vacationing,” she wrote in her entry, “but my savory, spicy, fantastic Costa Rican meal—made all the more delectable by the warmth of our host and the adventures of the day—will always count as the best, most special dish I’ve ever tasted while traveling.”

How did you feel when you received the winning phone call?
I was pretty ecstatic. My husband and I had been feeling a little burned out at work, so it was really exciting. I was shaking all day!
Why did you choose Costa Rica for your first tour?
It sounded like an adventure. Growing up, my family always went camping, so we like that. My daughter also went to London and Paris with EF in high school (where I went as a chaperone) so I was familiar with EF.
What did you think of the food?
My husband and I aren’t very fearful, we’ll try anything! We enjoy the adventure of trying to find out new places to eat. The food itself [in Costa Rica] wasn’t complicated, but very flavorful without being spicy. There was always something different.
What are you excited to taste on your free tour?
My husband’s family is from Northern Rome, so we’re excited to try authentic Italian food. In London, I just love how eclectic cuisine is—you can have bangers and mash, but six different ways! I also love croque monsieur, so I’ll make sure to have that too.
What is your favorite part of traveling?
I love that “take your breath away” moment. I like the unexpected experiences that happen that aren’t on the itinerary. It sounds cliché, but those moments in time where you just stop and feel alive are so special.
