Because we were already in London for the pre-tour extension, we had an extra full day as we waited for our group members to arrive for the start of the tour.
While our fellow group members were en route, we started with a visit to the Churchill War Room in Westminster. It turned out to be so interesting that we stayed much longer than we had planned!
Down in a bunker, that was secret during WWII, Winston Churchill (along with a large staff) oversaw the war’s strategy and monitored its progress. This is the senior staff conference room. The chair at the head of the table is Churchill’s.
Part of the War Room focuses on Churchill’s life before the war, and on his leadership qualities. This cartoon depicts him as a man in charge.
For a touch of whimsy, me in a London phone booth!
