We had a lovely picnic on the terrace last evening instead of a traditional dinner. We went to a local deli and bought some great cheeses, salamis, roasted veggies, breads and some traditional Italian cookies. It was a great meal with a good group of people.
We hit our beds pretty early so we could get an early start to our day today. We drove to Cortona in time to hear the church bells welcoming the followers into church… such a lovely sound that echoed over the misty hills as the sun was burning the still lingering bits of fog from the meadows. We climbed the hilly streets to Cortona and enjoyed the famous Etruscan museum, then had free time to wander the tiny streets of yet another magical Italian village. We stopped and admired the flower shops, the hand-painted ceramics, the ancient city walls and of course made the stop for a morning expresso to liven up our souls! We were now ready for anything!
After the morning in Cortona, we traveled to Lake Trasimeno, one of the Italian havens for summer fun. We had a magnificent lunch that went on for two hours. (Wow! Talk about being wined and dined on this trip!)
After, we had time to wander along the shores of the peaceful lake and watch the sailboats slowly float along on a peaceful Sunday afternoon. The weather, the company, the food or the wine could not have been any better.
Now to Perugia and the world-famous chocolate festival. This trip is one of the best!
