Each of our Group Coordinators shares a few key traits—they’re curious, spirited, and love discovering new things. But, they all have a different style when it comes to seeing the world. In this series, we’re spotlighting some of the personalities that make our Group Travel Program great. Meet Judy, a social networker, below.
Judy, The Social Networker
Few people have the ability to share their passion in a way that immediately inspires others. Judy is one of them. She spreads enthusiasm for travel to everyone around her. Since 1997, she’s been exploring the world with EF Educational Tours—originally as a teacher taking her students through Europe and the U.S., then as a Go Ahead Group Coordinator. Today, Judy spends as much time as possible doing what she loves most: helping friends, family members, and other travel enthusiasts explore new destinations, histories, and cultures.
She travels with friends and fellow retired teachers from Iowa, where she lives, but is constantly looking to share the world with new travelers. In fact, Judy’s been known to strike up a conversation with anyone she sees buying a suitcase or picking up a passport. Unwavering in her positivity, her approach to recruiting a group is to put herself out there. “You never know who you might pick up as a potential traveler by asking questions and not being shy,” she says. “Always have your Go Ahead business card with you, and let people know this is what you do and love!”
Getting ready to go
When it comes to her group members—usually around 12 to 14 per trip—Judy works hard to make sure they have the experience they want. From an initial meet and greet for her travelers to a bon voyage meeting, during which she talks through trip details to remember before takeoff, she’s with them every step of the way. To let her travelers know how much she appreciates them, Judy gives them thoughtful gifts, like fun luggage tags or ornaments from a destination they visited together.
Judy spreads the word about her tours online, through social media, and via email. She shares information about upcoming tours on her own dedicated Facebook page. An active member of our community, she often posts travel tips on our Group Coordinator Facebook page and swaps recruiting advice with others on exclusive Group Coordinator Tours.
“I wouldn’t travel with any other company. Go Ahead treats us all so well,” she says. “I still feel that teaching component. I love getting organized and being able to teach people about the places we visit together.”
