Traveler Carmen T. discovered Jimmy, our photographer on tour, by seeing him pop up on our Facebook page. After that, it became her biggest wish for the opportunity to travel with him—so Carmen was more than surprised when she got the chance to do just that a few months later! Here, she tells us what it was like to be on tour with Jimmy.
Go Ahead: How did you hear about Jimmy?
Carmen: I found out about Jimmy on Go Ahead’s Facebook page. I clicked ‘like’ on a picture that was posted and from then on I received updates. One of the updates I got was about Jimmy’s blog. I started following his blog and I fell in love with his pictures. I told my friends I would love to travel with him and have time to chat and get tips on how to take better pictures and of course, hear his story. Who would have thought a couple of months later, that dream would come true.
GA: What inspires you about Jimmy’s photography?
C: My hobby is photography. I love taking pictures, it’s my passion! The way he looks for the perfect position, the right angle… it’s all about dedication! All about capturing that perfect shot. The outcome of his photography is simply incredible and inspiring. You value the dedication and the work it takes to make it look effortless, but being on tour with him, I saw him in action and learned how it takes more than one shot to get that great outcome.
GA: Why did you decide to go on Barcelona, France & the Italian Riviera?
C: I was not originally supposed to go on this tour. I usually travel with a group but they were traveling in July, so my friend talked me into traveling with her. I began to do some research about tours where she could be happy and I could see new places. I found this tour and that was it! I love Spain and Italy, but my friend had never had been to any of these places. She wanted to go to Barcelona and see the Trevi Fountain in Rome.
GA: What was your favorite part of the tour (besides traveling with Jimmy)?
C: Seeing new places and capturing them in my photography. I love traveling! I want to travel the world and capture my experience with my lens. The adventure of seeing the familiar and mixing it with new grounds I haven’t been to before is so refreshing.
GA: What was your favorite city?
C: All of them are wonderful but I fell in love with Cinque Terre. The colors of the buildings, the houses, even the rocks! Everything is so picturesque. The food was wonderful too, the wine especially. It was as if I had hopped into one of my pictures and everything came to life.
GA: Tell us one thing you learned during your trip.
C: I learned more about the European culture. We are constantly learning in life and it was great to see everything I have read so much about and seen only through pictures. I got to be a part of all of that for a brief moment.
GA: Did Jimmy teach you any photography tips? We’d love to hear them!
C: Yes he did! When we were in Portofino, it was a very damp, rainy day. It wasn’t a good day for scenery shots so he told us to take shots of things versus scenery. We took pictures of objects, rocks, buildings, etc. Another trick was how to wait for the sun to be in a perfect position. He was super helpful and concerned with us getting the best shots no matter the climate or place.
GA: Is there anything else you’d like to share about your tour or tour experience?
C: I just want to wish Jimmy all the success in the world. I hope all his dreams come true and that he keeps inspiring all travelers. I hope he comes to Puerto Rico sometime and I can be his guide!
