Our Senior Customer Relations Representative Katie and Program Coordinator Amanda recently explored the Galápagos Islands on tour. Here’s what they had to say about the fun and interesting creatures they spotted on the islands.
One of our favorite animals to spot while exploring the Galápagos Islands was the Galápagos land iguana. They were often found basking in the sun and were hard to miss with their colorful exterior!
Everyone’s favorite bird in the Galápagos was the blue-footed booby. Their amazing turquoise-colored feet made them especially easy to spot on almost every island in the archipelago.
The Galápagos land tortoise was another favorite of ours, although they were not as visible on each island. They are not to be confused with the many abundant sea turtles found swimming near the shore, however. The huge, heavy shell and long life expectancy of the land tortoise is just so fascinating!
These gorgeous pelicans could be found on almost every island we visited. This particular pelican was spotted on our favorite island, Fernandina, where so many different species live altogether in harmony.
Our absolute favorite animal to see was the Galápagos sea lion by far! They are so adorable, playful and social. Although we saw many of them, we were always the most excited to find a sea lion sunbathing or playing with other sea lions.
Pro tip for traveling in the Galápagos
Don’t forget to pack your SPF and your sun hat because there’s nothing worse than being sunburnt for the few short days you have in the islands. Some of our travelers even bought the SPF sun shirts so they didn’t have to worry quite as much about re-applying!
